How do I register to use

The first step for anyone wishing to take an OnlineAHA course is to register on the site.

  1. Click Log In/Register
  2. Please do not re-register if you have done so previously. If you are not sure if you have registered previously, please try to reset your password first
  3. Choose Create an Account
  4. Fill out all required information for registration and click Continue
  5. Complete country information and accept the terms and conditions
  6. Write down the email address and password you used for future reference

What is the My Courses page?

The My Courses page is visible to all logged-in students and is also found under My eLearning. This page provides easy access to course information. Use the My Courses page to:

  • Purchase a course key
  • Activate a key
  • Start a course
  • See your active courses
  • Apply for applicable CE credit
  • Print course completion certificates
  • Print receipts


How do I purchase a course for myself?

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select Courses from the main menu
  3. Click the Add to Cart button beside the course you wish to purchase
  4. Continue with checkout

How do I purchase a bulk quantity of keys?

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select Courses from the main menu
  3. Find the course you want to purchase, enter the quantity, and click Add to Cart
  4. Proceed to checkout
  5. Complete purchase process
  6. To view course keys purchased, go to Order History under My eLearning and click on the correct order number

When trying to pay via Credit Card, I receive an error message stating my account is invalid.

If you receive this error message, please enter your credit card information again without using any spaces or dashes. Also, locate the security code on the back of your card and enter it in the appropriate field on the form.

I need a receipt for my purchase.

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select My eLearning
  3. Select Order History
  4. Click the order number you wish to open/view
  5. Print order history

What is AHA's return policy?

We will gladly accept and credit the purchase price for course keys purchased at if returned in unused condition within 30 days of purchase. All key returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee.

I work for a tax-exempt organization. How do we apply for a sales tax refund?

If you are a tax-exempt organization from Connecticut, South Dakota, Texas, or Washington, please place your order online and email your order number, name, email and tax exempt certificate to and we will credit your credit card for the sales tax. Otherwise, all Connecticut, South Dakota, Texas, and Washington orders placed online will be charged the applicable sales tax.

Course Keys

What is a course key?

No matter the format, all online courses begin with a course key. A key is a 9– or 12–digit alphanumeric code that is used to access purchased courses. A course key may be purchased directly by individuals, or Training Centers and employers may purchase and distribute keys to the students who will complete training.

How do I activate a course key?

  1. On the Home Page, click Activate a Course Key
  2. You will be asked to log in (or register, if you are a new user)
  3. Once you have logged in or registered, enter your key in the available space
  4. You will be asked to agree to terms and conditions prior to activating the key
  5. After activating a course key, go to the My Courses page to begin your new course

I am not sure if my key contains the number “0” or the letter “O”.

Please always use the number zero.

How do I enroll in a course after purchase?

When purchasing your course, you should see a window asking if you would like to enroll in the course. If you do not enroll at this time, or do not see the option to enroll, you can enroll from your Order History.

  1. Log in to your account
  2. Go to your Order History
  3. Click on the correct Order Number for the course purchase
  4. Under Course Key Details, click Enroll In Course next to any available course to enroll yourself and begin taking the course. If the course key has already been activated, you will not see an option to Enroll in Course. 


I would like to give my course key to someone else to use.

  1. Each course key can only be used by one student
  2. If you have not used your key, simply forward the key to the person you would like to give it to
  3. To find the course key, go to My eLearning, then Order History, then click on the correct order number
  4. They will need to register on the site, then they can activate the course key

Do course keys expire?

  • Un-activated (un-used) course keys do not expire
  • Once a course key is activated, some courses expire after 12 months. For HeartCode®, BLS for Healthcare Providers, and Heartsaver® First Aid CPR/AED courses, courses will expire after 24 months

Course Navigation

How do I start a course?

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Go to My eLearning then My Courses
  3. Click the Start button next to the course you would like to begin in the Active Courses section

Where do I begin in a course?

On the course home page always start with the first exercise. You will receive instructions on what you need to do to complete the course. Once you finish an exercise, return to the Course Home page and move to the next exercise you wish to complete on the list.

What is a required exercise?

Courses are comprised of modules which include exercises to reinforce and check that students understand the information. We refer to these as required exercises. Required exercises are mandatory and require 100% accuracy to complete the course.

How do I move through the exercises?

Once you have launched a course module, there are arrows to use for navigation. Click the arrows to proceed to the next page in the course.

Do I need to save my completed exercises?

No, once you complete an exercise it is automatically saved and appears with a "Review" button on the course home page. However, your work in an exercise will not be saved if you log out before you finish that exercise.

Can I take a break while working on a course?

Yes. You can enter and exit a course as often as necessary. If you are not active in the course for 30 minutes, your user session will time out. When this happens, you will see a message that your session expired. Simply log in again and return to the course. You will see all of your completed exercises have been saved.

For courses that require an online test, the test must be completed in a single session with no breaks.

How do I complete the online test?

Once you complete all required exercises or course modules, you will be able to access the online test. The online test is mandatory and must be completed in a single session.

Can I access the test again to review the questions?

No. After you complete the test you are shown your score and the test answers once. Students cannot access test questions or answers again at a later time.

How do I show that I completed the online course?

After successfully completing the online course you will receive a Certificate of Completion.

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select My eLearning 
  3. Choose Certificates
  4. View and download the certificate for each course

How long do I have to complete the course?

Once a key is activated, you have 12 or 24 months (see "Do course keys expire?") to complete the course online before your course access expires.

Why do I not see my profession on the list of candidates who can receive continuing education (CE/CME) for this course?

If your profession is not listed here, please contact your HR department or licensing board with any questions. The American Heart Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and does not determine participants to receive credit or number of credits per course.

Hands-On Skills Sessions

What is a hands-on skills session?

A skills session is the hands-on portion of an AHA eLearning course and includes skills practice and testing. It is conducted in-person after a student completes online cognitive portion of the course.

Depending on the course, skills sessions are conducted by AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, or Heartsaver® Instructors. For HeartCode® system courses, the student may be able to practice and test on a Voice-Assisted Manikin (VAM) system, if that option is offered.

How long do I have to complete the hands-on skills session?

It is highly recommended students complete their hands-on skills session withing 60 days of completing the online portion of their course.

Is there a cost?

Yes, the AHA Training Center will charge a fee. Use the Find a Course tool to locate a skills session, and be sure to inquire about the fee when you sign up.

How do I locate a hands-on skills session?

Students can locate an AHA Training Center that offers hands-on skills sessions by using the Find a Course tool. They then can schedule and purchase a skills session from the Training Center they choose.

What do I bring to the hands-on skills session?

For admission into a hands-on skills session, students must present their Certificate of Completion for the online portion of the course to the AHA Instructor. Go to your Certificates to find and print your certificate.

Certificates and Course Completion Cards

How do I show that I completed the online course?

After successfully completing the online course you will receive a Certificate of Completion.

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select My eLearning
  3. Click Certificates
  4. View or download the certificate for each course
  5. Take the certificate with you to your skills session

Can I re-print my certificate?


  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select My eLearning
  3. Choose Certificates
  4. View or download the certificate
  5. Print

I think I passed the course, but I cannot access or print my certificate.

Most likely, one of the required exercises in your course has not been completed.

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select My eLearning, then My Courses 
  3. In the Active Courses section, select the correct course
  4. Scroll down the course home page; make sure that no course exercises have a 'Start' or 'Resume' button
  5. Make sure you have completed the Course Evaluation
  6. After you verify all required exercises have been completed, click on View Completion Certificate on the course home page
  7. Your certificate should also now be available in the Certificates section of My eLearning

I completed a Heartsaver® course (Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED or Heartsaver Pediatric) and I cannot find my Certificate on OnlineAHA.

  1. Go to (opens in new tab)
  2. Login with the email and password used to take the course originally
  3. Select My eLearning, then Certificates and eCards
  4. Your certificate should now be available for email or download.

How can I see the date I completed a course?

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Select My eLearning, then My Courses
  3. In the Completed Courses section you will see the date you completed the course

How do I get my AHA course completion card?

After successfully completing a hands-on skills session with an AHA Training Center, the Instructor will issue you an official AHA course completion card. Cards are only issued for courses that include psychomotor skills and require completion of a skills session.

I lost my AHA course completion card. How can I get a replacement?

AHA course completion cards are only issued by AHA Training Centers. Contact your Instructor or the issuing Training Center about obtaining a replacement.

Why does the date and time on my certificate look different than the time I actually completed the course?

The date and time on your certificate is in Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). To calculate course completion date and time for your Time Zone, use the following chart and subtract the indicated number of hours from the date & time displayed on your certificate. Make sure you are accounting for Daylight Savings Time.

For example, if your certificate displays 7:00p.m. GMT, and you are in Eastern Standard Time, your time of completion is 2:00p.m. EST. 


NOTE: Be sure to also change the date if your time zone calculation crosses 12:00a.m. For example, if your certificate displays December 1st at 1:00a.m. GMT, subtracting 5 hrs to get EST time means you completed your course at 8:00p.m. on November 30th in your time zone.



I forgot my password.

  1. Go to the Home Page
  2. Click Log In/Register 
  3. Choose 'Forgot Password'
  4. Enter email/username

I want to change my password.

  1. Log in to the site
  2. Choose Edit My Profile under My eLearning
  3. click Edit AHA Profile or Change Password
  4. Enter required information and save changes

My employer or training center gave me a course key and directed me to go to to begin my training, but I am not able to log in using the key.

The 9- or 12-digit course key your employer gave you is not the same as a password. Entering the course key in the registration area will not allow you to log in to the site. Your course key will give you access to the course AFTER you register and login.

  1. If you have not already done so, register on the website by clicking the "Log in/Register" link
  2. Click 'Create an Account'
  3. Complete all required information
  4. After you are registered and logged in to OnlineAHA, go to Activate a Course Key to redeem your course key and begin your training. You do not need to keep your course key after this point.

Are passwords case sensitive?


Technical and Computer System Questions

Have a technical or computer system related question?
